I find it difficult to describe just how much the Swedish movie Fucking Amal has moved me, how much this simple and beautiful love story has moved me. A friend gave me the DVD last Christmas and I watched it for the first time earlier this year. I’ve already written both a blog and a review, but I keep coming back to it. The ending is the best ‘coming out’ scene ever; even thinking about it, as I write these words, brings tears to my eyes. Yes, I’m serious.
I watched all the way through positively willing Elin to go to the sweet and beautiful Agnes, all through the moments of despair, all through the downs. I love these girls so so much. I love the music in the movie, especially Underground by Broder Daniel, played as the two walk out of the school hand in hand in the face of collective astonishment. We look so good , we look so good. Yes, darlings, you do.
