Fairy Visions

John Anster Fitzgerald was another of the painters touched on. He so favoured depictions of fairies in his work that he was known as ‘Fairy Fitzgerald.’ His art has an altogether haunting quality, a suggestion that some of his visions were drug-induced. The fairy paintings are two edged; light and cheerful, on the one, and dark and demonic, on the other.
